Part one of our discussion revolved around chapters 1-7 of Dr. Randy Christensen’s Ask Me Why I Hurt. We used the word cloud below developed with suggested themes from our participants to begin the discussion. We focused primarily on the role of family in being a healthcare provider and how these relationships can aid or complicate your professional perspective.
How do you think being a loved one can aid your professionalism? How might it complicate it?
Once Dr. Christensen joined the conversation, our focus shifted more towards how patients can change the lives of their providers. We were able to ask questions about the trajectory of his work since setting up the mobile health unit in Arizona, as well as how his personal philosophies about vulnerability, gratitude, and professionalism have changed since meeting the children he works with.
